LPL 2021: Jaffna Kings Claim Second LPL Title With Thrashing of Galle Gladiators
Jaffna Kings won the 2nd edition of Lanka Premier League (LPL 2021), defeating Galle Gladiators in the final match.
Jaffna Kings, on Thursday lifted their second consecutive LPL trophy after thrashing Galle Gladiators in the final match by 23 runs of the Lanka Premier League 2021-22.
Jaffna Kings (earlier Stallions) have defended the LPL title successfully as they were also the champions of the inaugural season of the tournament.
Talking about the match, Jaffna Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision of batting first turned out to be in favour of the Kings as they posted a mammoth score of 201/3 on the scoreboard.
The Kings’ openers were fantastic with the bat as they provided them a good start. Avishka Fernando smashed 63 off 41 while Gurbaz gave a splendid performance on the most important occasion and smashed 35 off 18. Kohler Cadmore scored 57 off 41 and remained not out.
Coming to chase, Galle Gladiators failed to carry on the momentum provided by their openers Kusal Mendis (39 off 28) and Danushka Gunathilaka (54 off 21) and failed to chase the target and lost the match by 23 runs.
