Mitchell Starc Doubtful for India Tour After Finger Injury

Mitchell Starc will miss the third and final Test against South Africa.

Australia star pacer Mitchell Starc has confirmed that he will be out for a few weeks after sustaining a finger injury during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The left-hander bowled in the pain in the second Test, which Australia won by an innings and 182 runs on Thursday to seal the series 2-0 with a match to spare.

While it has been confirmed that Starc will miss the third and final Test against South Africa, there is a possibility that he might miss the starter for the Test series against India in February.

“India’s the next big tour and we’ll see where the time frame is with that. It’s my bowling hand so I’ve got to be pretty careful and make sure it heals properly,” Starc was quoted as saying after win against the Proteas.

“The irony is ( Cameron Green) will be back before I am. Bones are a bit quicker in the healing process, the tendon is a little bit different. I think we’ll both be seeing the same specialist.”

“I still think everyone’s confident it will be more front-end (of India tour). It will obviously depend on how it heals and how quickly it can do what it needs to do.”

Cameron Green Ruled Out of SCG Test

Australia’s young all-rounder Cameron Green will also miss the final match of the series, which begins on January 4 in Sydney, to recover from a broken finger he sustained in Melbourne.

Green was Australia’s highest wicket-taker in the first innings against Proteas as he took a five-for. The all-rounder is expected to fit before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and there are no doubts over his participation in IPL 2023.
