In the latest turn of events, India’s senior pacer Mohammed Shami has cleared the fitness test and is all set to fly to Australia as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement.

India suffered a massive blow ahead of the commencement of their T20 World Cup 2022, with their ace pacer Bumrah being ruled out of the showpiece event. The tournament is scheduled between October 16 to November 13 in Australia.

Earlier, Shami had been added in the squad as a travelling reserves despite having not played a single T20I  for India since the T20 World Cup last year. He was also included in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa at home after being recalled to the T20I squad.

However, the Uttar Pradesh pacer had unfortunately missed the series after testing positive for COVID-19. Earlier a BCCI source gave an update on Shami’s fitness, stating he is fit and will replace Bumrah in the squad soon.

“Mohammed Shami, if fit, was always going to be the first replacement as that’s the closest Indian team can get in terms of sheer quality. He will be joining some time next week,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI.
