PSL 2024: Hawk-Eye Apologizes to PCB for DRS Failure, Admits Wrong Data Shown On Screen
Hawk-Eye has admitted that it made a human error to the PCB.
Hawk-Eye has issued an apology to the PCB while admitting that it made a human error while declaring Rilee Rossouw as ‘not out’ against Salman Agha during a PSL match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United on Thursday, February 22.
Hawk-Eye maintains that the system accurately recorded the delivery for the DRS, indicating the impact as the umpire’s call and the wickets as hitting. However, an operator error resulted in incorrect ball tracking data being broadcast, leading to an inaccurate outcome.
The officials said, “Had processes been followed as expected, this (correct ball tracking data) would have been available only a few seconds after the incorrect data was played on broadcast.”
Given that Hawk-Eye remains the only technology endorsed by the International Cricket Council for ball tracking, having been initially tested in 2008 and integrated into the DRS, this incident reignited discussions on the efficacy of Hawk-Eye technology—a debate that still lacks a conclusive resolution.
