Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer Accused of Lying About BCCI Approaching Them for Head Coach Role

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has revealed that they haven’t reached out to any Australian for the head coach role.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has denied approaching any former Australian cricketer for the role of India’s next head coach. This comes after claims from Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer that they rejected offers from the BCCI.

Shah’s statement suggests the new coach will likely be someone familiar with the Indian cricket system.

“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer,” Shah said firmly. “The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect.”

Both Ponting and Langer are currently head coaches in the IPL, leading the Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants respectively. Speculation now surrounds former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir, who mentors the Kolkata Knight Riders, as a potential candidate.

“Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous process,” Shah explained. “We’re identifying individuals with a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure, those who have come up through the ranks.”

In-depth knowledge of domestic cricket seems to be a key factor for the BCCI. Shah believes this understanding is “crucial to truly elevate Team India to the next level.”

While Ponting cited lifestyle concerns for rejecting the offer, Justin Langer remained open to the possibility. He acknowledged the job’s intensity, having experienced the demands of coaching Australia. He also revealed advice from KL Rahul, stating the huge pressure and politics involved with the Indian team.
