Ruturaj Gaikwad creates history, becomes 1st player to hit 7 sixes in an over

Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes first player to hit seven sixes in an over in all forms of cricket.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, on Monday (November 28) became the first batter in all forms of cricket to hit seven sixes and 43 runs in a single over during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2nd Quarter-final match between Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

The Chennai Super Kings batter clobbered UP bowler Shiva Singh all around the park and smacked seven consecutive sixes, including one no-ball, on which Gaikwad hit a six.

The swashbuckling right-hander now also holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single over – 42. The earlier record was held by Elton Chigumbura of Zimbabwe who had smacked 39 off Alauddin Babu in a Dhaka Premier Division match in 2013.

The Maharashtra opener has got five hundred and one double century to his name in the last eight innings since 2021. Following this inning, Gaikwad also emulated Rohit Sharma’s record of hitting the most sixes (16) in a single List-A inning.

Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten for 220 (off 159 balls) as Maharashtra posted a mammoth total of 330 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs. Gaikwad’s monstrous knock includes 10 boundaries and 16 towering sixes.
