T20 World Cup 2021: Australia Announces Its 15-Member Squad For World Cup

Steve Smith and David Warner makes a comeback as Australia announces their T20 World Cup squad. Aaron Finch will be leading the side and will be assisted by Pat Cummins.

Australia Cricket, on Thursday announced the squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be start from 17 October, 2021 . Meanwhile, the major names which skipped the West Indies and Bangladesh white ball tour are back in the team.

As usual, Aaron Finch will lead the team with Steve Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins making a comeback to the national team. Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Wade have also been included in the team.

Fast bowlers Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff along with top-order options Alex Carey, Moises Henriques, Josh Philippe and Ashton Turner are the most surprising omissions from the squad.

Notably, Australian team have not won a single T20 World Cup while they have five five World Cup in the 50-over format.

Two of the notable omissions from the squad are that of Alex Carey and Josh Philippe. Management preferred Josh Inglis over the duo as a back gloveman to Matthew Wade.

Talking about bowling department, Pat Cumins will be leading the pace bowling attack with Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Kane Richardson. Adam Zampa and Mitchell Swepson are two frontline leg-spinners in the 15-men squad.

All-rounders Dan Christian and Daniel Sams, and fast bowler Nathan Ellis have been named as travelling reserves. Notably, Ellis took a hat-trick on his international debut against Bangladesh and was impressive in the final match of the series returning with figures of 2/16.

Daniel Christian has also been impressive in the recent chances he has got. One of those was in Bangladesh, when he smashed five sixes in an over (to Shakib Al Hasan) to hand Australia their sole victory on the tour.
