The Hundred 2023: Smriti Mandhana Creates History with Stunning Half-Century in Tournament Opener

Smriti Mandhana becomes the first player to score a century in The Hundred 2023.

The third edition of ‘The Hundred’ got underway on Tuesday, August 1 and with Trent Rockets Women battling it out against Southern Brave Women in the first match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

After winning the toss, Trent Rockets Women elected to field first. Southern Brave Women got off to an explosive start, with openers Smriti Mandhana and Danielle Nicole Wyatt putting on a 65-run partnership.

India’s elegant left-handed batter, Smriti Mandhana, particularly shone with the bat, scoring a half-century and becoming the first player in the ongoing edition of ‘The Hundred’ to reach the fifty.

By achieving this milestone, she now holds the record for the most 50-plus scores in The Hundred Women’s history, equalling Jemimah Rodrigues’ four half-centuries in the tournament.

Thanks to Smriti Mandhana’s outstanding half-century, Southern Brave Women managed to put up a total of 157 runs in 100 balls while losing six wickets.
