‘There’s No Greater Honour Than Coaching Your National Team’ – Gautam Gambhir Ready to Lead Team India as Head Coach

The BCCI will soon make an official announcement regarding Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the head coach.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has almost confirmed that he will be the next head coach of Team India after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ends following the T20 World Cup in 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released applications for the head coach position last month. Rahul Dravid has shown no interest in extending his contract or reapplying for the position.

According to several reports, the BCCI approached many former Australian cricketers, including Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer, and even approached former New Zealand legend Stephen Fleming, who is currently the head coach of CSK.

However, none of them were interested in the position. Later, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated that the BCCI never approached any of these cricketers and is looking for a local coach who is familiar with the Indian players.

Gautam Gambhir Emerges As Top Contender

Gautam Gambhir has emerged as the frontrunner for the coaching role. Gambhir recently guided the Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title win in his first season as a mentor, and the BCCI is highly impressed with his coaching stint.

Gautam Gambhir himself has almost confirmed his eagerness to take up the role during an event in Abu Dhabi. Here is what Gambhir said:

“I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no greater honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well.”

The BCCI will soon announce the official appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach once Rahul Dravid’s tenure comes to an end.
