Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal to Open in T20 World Cup? Jaffer Backs New Pair Over Rohit Sharma

Wasim Jaffer wants Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal to open for India in T20 World Cup 2024.

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has revealed his ideal batting order for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Jaffer believes in a surprise opening pair of Virat Kohli and young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaffer argues that Rohit Sharma, known for his exceptional spin-playing skills, can bat at number 3 or 4 depending on the match situation. While batting lower in the order might be a new role for Rohit, Jaffer trusts his experience to handle it well.

Here’s what Jaffer said: “Kohli and Jaiswal should open in the World Cup… Rohit & SKY [Suryakumar Yadav] should bat 3 and 4 depending on the start we get. Rohit plays spin really well so batting at 4 shouldn’t be a concern.”

Virat Kohli has proven himself as a successful opener in the past, scoring a brilliant century against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup. Jaiswal, on the other hand, has a T20 hundred to his name while opening for India A.

India’s T20 World Cup campaign kicks off on June 5th against Ireland. They will play a warm-up match against Bangladesh before the main event.
